Legal & General average 5 year share price
Legal & General’s average share price over the past five years (08/2019 to 08/2024) sits between:
At the lowest point of £1.55 on 20/03/2020 when the pandemic started.
To the highest of £3.19 on 19/02/2020 just before the pandemic.
Based on my own personal experience looking at a long term hold, today I would purchase shares between the price range of £1.95 to £2.05 target.
The ideal exit strategy would be to hold them for 10-15 years before selling around the £3.50 to £4.50 target sell price.
Legal & General Dividend
In 2016 the group announced a progressive dividend policy projecting growth between 3-6% annually until 2024. L & G projected and delivered a 5% dividend increase for 2024 which followed that previous guidance.
Dividends are paid bi-annually with the final dividend being paid around the 1st June each year.
Legal & General’s first interim dividend is usually paid around the 21-26th September (Going ex-dividend around 21st August). Then the groups final dividend usually goes ex-dividend around the end of April to be paid in early June of each year.
Retail customers can easily find the groups historical dividends on the Legal & General Investor Relations website.
P/E is currently 0.32 (04/06/2026)
Dividend yield 8.09% (04/06/2026)
L & G Group was first added to the portfolio in 2016 purchasing just 500 shares.
Fortunately there was a great buying opportunity during the 2020 pandemic. I managed to double the holdings during the market dip, one of the lowest prices paid was just £1.6085 per share.
Total dividend income received over a ten year period is £1,570.45. This is pretty impressive, especially because in the first three year we only held 500 hundred shares until 2020.
